They are confusing ...
They are confusing the government with the private companies. There should be little doubt that these companies would have a deep interest in protecting your information from both the government and hackers. However, because the costs and burdens are being placed on the companies, it may be that companies will not be able to protect the information in a cost-effective way, and have a disincentive to effectively pursue this interest. Regardless, be careful, things are changing.
I think it is ...
I think it is hilarious that all these politicians just decide these laws for us without our consent.. The most hilarious part? No one is paying attention.
But that's what I ...
But that's what I just said.
I agree with you ...
I agree with you in part... the internet is a privilege, not a right... Freedom of expression in said platform, however, should be everyone's business. Peace.
SOPA didn't even ...
SOPA didn't even make it to the floor... the outrage was so forceful they thought better of it... these "whores" in congress only care about reelection. What do they do instead? They send in the strong arm of the executive/legislative: The Dept of Justice to make Megaupload and example and force everyone else to shut down and run for the hills. It's just the trickery/ slight of hand these politicians engage in. They'll find a way to get their way and your freedom be damned.
Uhm, you can keep ...
Uhm, you can keep the anarchy... I prefer Liberty (which is not the same thing as freedom, by the way). Liberty to do as I please and allow other to do as they please.
It's called " ...
It's called "silencing the opposition." Identify your opposition, confiscate their tools/materials (in this case computer or computer records), put them in prison indefinitely, fabricate evidence against them (if you are not a child pornographer, some child pornography will "find" its way into your confiscated computer courtesy of the authorities) so as to be labeled a criminal, well, you'll make Assad in Syria look like the "Ice-capades Musical Salute to Democratic Values and Ideas."

Oh yes and I forgot ...
Oh yes and I forgot the tidbit that a company can do what ever the hell they want with your information under this bill :) So companies can sell your information to other companies without your consent. Oh and you cannot sue either.

Yes that about sums it up.

The internet has ...
The internet has let many musicians gain fame through it, thus making independent artists more free from the control of massive companies. It is from a programming standpoint, incredibly difficult to regulate content if the public can post. You look at one facebook account and equate it to a database with HUNDREDS OF VIDEOS. You may be able to interpret content on your wall but a computer cannot. As an IT student, I found your comment rather silly.
Too many entitled ...
Too many entitled monkeys using this service, yes that is right, the internet is a privileged not a right, let the companies do what they want with your information or find other ways to distribute and attain information, lawls!
They're trying to ...
They're trying to pull the same bullshit in Canada under the same guise... "You're either with us or with the child pornographers" says Vic Toews, a minister in the Canadian government. People have called bullshit en masse. They appear to be backing off, for now. The demand for privacy is not an admission of shame or guilt, for the millionth time. Another way to say this is that I don't need to see Vic Toews naked to trust that he doesn't have a small child in his underwear; nor ne mine.
We've been mocking ...
We've been mocking 'the great firewall of China' all along, but now we're embracing chinese system and creating our own 'Great FireWall of US'. Who's laughting now? Shame on us.
Use Security ...
Use Security protocols >Tor, i2P, cjdns & proxies in general manually besides filters like NoScript & Low Level Packet Filtering example 'PeerBlock' for Windows (iplist/moblock on Linux) Hard/Software Firewalls, spoofing your MAC address. More in depth one should use Disk Encryption via TrueCrypt, take advantage of tools like OSSEC, TOMOYO Linux enabled on Linux systems, and on Linux AIDE for file integrity checking. Data privacy tools >East-Tec Eraser 4 Win file systems, Sweeper, bleachbit etc
